The Boatshed

The Alf Settree Boatshed was erected by Huskisson's last wooden boat builder.

The Settree family arrived in Huskisson in 1932, by which time the Dent Shipyards had ceased operation. Alfred William Settree was followed by his son Alfred Raymond (Alf Settree, OA), and in turn by Alfred Raymond's sons, John and Trevor.

The slipway has two boats currently in dry-dock:

  • The Ninon, a representation of a small fishing boat, and
  • an unnamed, incomplete wooden trawler with the ribs of the hull exposed to show the typical hull structure of 20th century boat-building.

Also on display are items used in shipbuilding. Other artefacts can be seen in the Museum.

The Boatshed overlooks the Fish Pond and visitors can view the species currently inhabiting the pool.

See the Fact Sheet for more information about ships built at Huskisson.
